Common Law Admission Test
With the exception of the national law college in Delhi and Meghalaya, the Common Law Admission Test is a centralized national level entrance exam for admission to 25 of the 26 national law universities. The All India Law Entrance test is the admissions exam used by National Law University (AILET). Lately founded NLU Meghalaya holds its own entrance exam. In the upcoming years, it is expected that AILET will merge with CLAT. 2008 saw the launch of the CLAT exam, a consolidated entrance exam for admission to Indian national law schools and universities. These scores are also used by a small number of self-funded, private law schools in India for admissions. CLAT Post Graduation scores are used by public sector organizations in India, such as ONGC, Coal India, BHEL, Steel Authority of India, oil India, and the India Army (for the recruitment of JAG officers). It is considered to be one of India’s top five most difficult entrance exams. The exam is administered following the completion of the 12the grade or the higher secondary examination in order to be admitted to integrated undergraduate law programs (BA/BBA/B.COM/B.SC/BSWLLB) and Master of law (LLM) programs offered by these law schools after graduation from law school. With an acceptance rate of just 3%, it is regarded as one of the most difficult entrance exams in India.
